Your dog is your best friend and deserves the world. Giving them a Greek name is a way to honor their special friendship with you!
Aristotle: For someone who always has an opinion on everything.
Oedipus Rex: If they’re stubborn enough for anything.
Homer Simpson: The classic slob, Homer can show up anywhere and everywhere while eating all of your food in one sitting. Don’t be surprised if he also manages to steal any other items that are within reach too! And don’t forget about his trademark drool either.. (sigh) I love this guy so much but it’s like living with a small child 24/365- not easy or fun sometimes ๐
Socrates: For the super intelligent pup. This is also a great name for anyone who’s curious about everything- like me!
Hippocrates: For someone with a lot of love to give and always wanting more pets around. Or, if they feel compelled to help other animals in need by donating their time or money to animal shelters or funding research and treatment options. And isn’t it just amazing how there are so many kind people out there that would do such an amazing thing? I’m so grateful that my own dog got adopted from one of these places too.. The shelter made him part of her family forever โค๏ธ Thank you for your kindness (and patience) whoever you may be ๐โฃ๏ธ
Hercules: For the pup that has it all. This is also a great name for someone who’s strong, brave and courageous in their every day life. Someone with so many talents that they’re able to take on anything!
These are just a few fun options for Greek names of dogs ๐ Let me know some other ones you might like in the comments below โค๏ธ๐

Hercules is a great name for anyone looking for something strong, brave and courageous in their every day life. For someone with so many talents that they’re able to take on anything (and make you feel like a veritable superhero). Hercules has always been one of my favorite classical heroes since childhood because he was just such an incredible human being: when faced with 12 impossible tasks set forth by King Eurystheus as penance for killing his family, he accomplished all 12 tasks. He was a natural hero and is one of the most well-known heroes in history!
I would say that Hercules has been my favorite name for dogs since I was a little girl, but it’s also used as an adult because it sounds so strong.- Happy Healthyie ๐โฃ๏ธ๐ถ
Many people don’t know this about me, but I’m actually vegan (a vegetable eater). One thing I really appreciate about my dog being vegan too is how much better his teeth are without any meat or dairy in our diet. His breath isn’t bad either haha! We go to lots of events where there might be free food around and he never goes for those things at all.
I’m a dog lover and I have so many great pictures of my pups on Instagram, but these are some that were taken by other people this year!
-@carl_andreaa – We have one doggy named Charlie who is the sweetest curmudgeon you’ll ever meet. His favorite thing in life is to be petted while he lies upside down with his tummy exposed for maximum tickle potential. He’s
-My dog is named Oliver and he loves me unconditionally.
-Lol, I had a labrador retriever the other day who was called Twinkle Toes! Funny name for an animal with a big old paw print on my duvet.
The funniest thing about dogs is that they will eat anything (including your homework) as long as you give them some tasty treats afterwards *smiles*. The problem with this is that it’s hard to come up with creative names for our pets without sounding silly or corny. Here are 11 of the best Greek names for dogs we found online:
Cerberus – Cerberus was one of three guardians of Hades’ gate in Greek mythology; a monstrous three-headed dog.
Ouzo – Ouzo is a Greek anise-flavored alcoholic beverage, traditionally served with water to create ouzo and ice cubes in glasses, as well as iced or chilled red wine.
Lola – Lola was the name of a Colombian entertainer from Bogota who became famous for her provocative dance moves during the 1940s and 1950s. She is often cited as being one of America’s most popular sex symbols of that era. Her signature look included tight skirts cut just below the knees, sheer blouses over her ample bosom complete with deep necklines plunging down to expose much of her chest; she would also wear long gloves up past her elbows which she would
“Adonis is just a great name for an Australian Shepherd. It sounds like he’s from the Mediterranean.” – @KortnieRenee
-Australian Shepherds are known to be very obedient and intelligent, so you know Adonis will behave!
-The meaning of ‘Adonis’ has romantic connotations as well: it means “very handsome”.
-“It was hard enough that I had to go through life with my human mom naming me Paris Hilton,” said another pup named Apollo. “Now everyone calls me โPawsโ because they can’t say my actual name!”
In honor of National Puppy Day last week, here are some tweets about dogs who have Greek names.
“I swear I’m not a dog but my mom named me Medea.” – @MaevePoehler
-Medea is a female name, meaning “she who has been angry”. This pup might be feeling misunderstood!
*Apollo: Leader of the Muses and god of light. He’s also worth an estimated $35 trillion dollars..talk about #bosspuppy! *@TheBella_Dogs on Instagram __ In honor of National Puppy Day last week, here are some tweets about dogs who have Greek names.
