Step One: Measure the Fabric

Measure out a three by nine inch piece of fabric and cut it off.

From there, measure and mark an eight inch strip on each side that is one inch wide from where just under the logo will be until about two inches below your arm pit area when wearing it as a shirt (see diagram). Now we need to make another strip that is two inches long – this will go at the bottom of your shirt in order to keep everything together while sewing. Next, fold up both strips so they form a triangle shape with their top edge meeting at center point. Pin them all around then sew them together.

Step Two: Sew the Strip for Your Shirt

Pin the long strip you created with a one inch wide opening on both ends to your shirt so that it is centered across your chest and going down towards your back. Be sure to use an invisible stitch by tucking the needle in at the seam rather than pulling up after each stitch- this will make it less visible when worn! Once pinned, sew two inches of fabric from either side as shown in diagram below. Make sure not to remove pins until step three is complete or else they’ll fall out while sewing! Now we need to fold over our triangle into its new position and pin again – making sure there are no loose threads at all (see photo). Next, sew the other two inches of fabric to close up your triangle.

Step Three: Sew Together

Trim off any excess material and cut a few horizontal slits on each side for an easier hem, then turn inside-out so that right sides are now facing outwards (see photo). Fold over one inch from either end – making sure not to trim this layer in order to finish it with an easy hem! You’ll want to use a twin needle stitch if you have access because this type of stitching will create a cleaner looking edge but we can still do narrow zigzag stitches just as well. Poke the needle through at the top left corner when sewing together and pull tight before moving down five inches. Next poke under the right side of the fabric and pull tight. Continue to stitch all the way around, pulling tightly as you go!

Step Four: Hem

Trim off any excess material on either end for a cleaner look. Then fold over one inch from either end – making sure not to trim this layer in order to finish it with an easy hem! Use a twin needle if possible or narrow zigzag stitches (see photo). Poke the needle through at the top left corner when sewing together and pull tight before moving down five inches. Next poke under the right side of the fabric and pull tight. Start stitching up by going back into where you came out from stitch two rows ago, catching only three threads so that your new row is visible. Keep stitching the same way and repeat this process until you get to where you started.

*For easier hemming, use a twin needle stitch or narrow zigzag stitches!

Step Five: Sew On Button

-Cut out a circle from felt that is larger than your button but smaller by about an inch in diameter for ease of sewing. Cut it so that there are no raw edges left on any side, then sew around the edge with contrasting thread (see photo). Leave about five inches unsewn at one end – this will become the opening for inserting your button into later. Turn inside out once sewed securely; turn right-side out again after stuffing with batting if desired (see video)

+Optionally, cut out a smaller circle from felt that matches the size of your button and use it to make an inner pouch for stuffing with batting. Make sure this opening is unsewn, then turn right-side out again after stuffing with batting if desired (see video).

+Optionally, pin two circles together to create one larger circle before sewing them closed; fill with polyfill or other filling material while still in tube shape

+ sew shut using matching thread on both ends when finished!

*For easier hemming, use a twin needle stitch or narrow zigzag stitches! *Do not trim away any excess fabric yet – you’ll need some length at the top of your shirt as well so be careful not to do too much trimming at this stage.

* Use a soft, lightweight fabric with some drape to it – cotton jersey would be perfect for example! Don’t worry if the fabric is thin and see-through because you’ll wear a camisole underneath your shirt.

* Cut off any excess length from the bottom of the sleeves, or hem them with a straight stitch on your sewing machine (if desired).

* Take one sleeve in each hand and use an iron to press under about two inches on either side of the cuff opening; fold again so that they’re pressed three times along that edge before stitching closed by hand using tiny backstitches. Repeat for other sleeve too if desired.

+Press seams flat towards wrong side of fabric. * Fold the bottom of your shirt in half so that it’s right sides together, and pin down one side to create a hemmed seam. Sew using a straight stitch or zigzag stitch along both raw edges (the two inches). * Press seams flat towards wrong side of fabric, then fold under again by about an inch before stitching into place with small backstitches as close to edge as you can get them for a neat finish. Repeat on other raw edge too if desired. +Turn garment inside out and press all seams towards the inside so they’re not visible from outside when wearing! * Wear proudly! 🙂 Stylish Cow Print Top: How-To Instructions Consider making this project yourself
