This list is based off of how well a player can attack in these categories: Reach (how far you can hit), Attack Speed (how fast your attacks come out) and Damage Output (amount of damage dealt). With that being said here’s my rankings of the top tiers of weapons in Dark Souls II.
Tier S: Chaos Blade, Northern Regalia, Occult Weaponry Set , Moonlight Greatsword
Tier A: Dragon Crest Shield (worn), Exile Greatshield, Drakekeeper’s Armor set, Old Sorcerer Staff and Stone Soldier Spear respectively.
Tier B: Lothric Knight Sword and Twin Princes Halberd to name a few then Tier C which is made up of most other weapons including Curved Swords like Ricard’s Rapier as well as Straight Swords like Longswords and Uchigatanas with some exceptions that I will mention later on. The only straight sword I would put higher than tier C is Washing Pole because it has a very high speed rating and it also has the ability to be upgraded with a fire gem.
Tier D: Curved Swords like Ricard’s Rapier, Straight Swords like Longswords and Uchigatanas should all be in this tier as well as Great Hammers such as Drakekeeper’s Great Hammer
The Obvious Exception: The Bandit Axe is an exception because of its low durability but that isn’t enough for me to place it above Tier B weapons. I’m not saying you shouldn’t use it, just don’t expect anything more than four or five swings before running out of juice. Additionally if your shield breaks then you will lose some defense stats which can be costly when facing bosses .
I recommend using this as a guide for what weapons to use in different situations.
-If you are looking for the best weapon then it’s Firelink Greatsword ranked Tier A
-If your shield breaks, then my recommendation would be Drakekeeper’s Great Hammer or Onyx Blade at Rank D because they have some of the highest damage out there and can take down most enemies with one hit. However, if we’re talking about durability than Dark Sword is by far the toughest though its stats may not compare to other weapons like Zweihander that do more base damage. If I was choosing between them two, I’d pick Dark Sword because it has better swing speed which will allow you to attack faster but just don’t expect any miracles when it comes to hitting the head. -Melee weapons are pretty balanced as they have a wide range of damage and durability so it’s hard for me to say which one is better than another but I’d recommend any weapon with at least Tier B ranking on this list because that would effectively mean you can use it without having your shield break all the time or running out of stamina while also taking into account their speed along with their usefulness in different situations. For example, if you’re fighting an enemy from behind then you should probably consider using Drakekeeper’s Great Hammer instead of Onix Blade because there will be less risk involved against getting hit by enemies around him.
