“Shut up!” “Why are you always talking?” “I’m sick of hearing your voice.” These are the words that many couples say to one another. It’s not just a bad marriage, it’s a bad relationship. Relationships require communication and understanding, which is why there needs to be more respect in these relationships. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how to work on keeping things civil and respectful with your partner by shutting your mouth when you’re talking!
Know what you’re talking about. If you aren’t sure, research it! It’s easy to find out information on the Internet.
Keep your voice down when having a conversation with someone in person. This makes things more personal and intimate for both of you, which will make dialogue easier.
Don’t say anything at all if they don’t want to talk to you or be around you that day (if they avoid eye contact). This means something is wrong and needs addressing ASAP! Remember that relationships require work and time – so give them some space before asking questions or making assumptions like this one: “You never want to hang out anymore!” Give people their privacy sometimes too! Don’t bombard them with texts, calls, etc.
If you need to ask them a question because things are going too far between the two of you for some reason – like it’s hard to talk about something or they ignored your texts and phone calls for days (or weeks) in a row, then go with someone else who is not emotionally involved. This way there won’t be any confusion on what was said. Communication is key when it comes to relationships!
Ask how their day went before talking about yours if they’re having an off day; this will make both parties more comfortable and give everyone time to ease into the conversation naturally. Sometimes people just don’t want anything other than silence sometimes. Understand that communication means different things for all types of people.

Just as the door opened and I was brushing my teeth before bedtime, he walked into our bathroom without knocking first– it’s a habit of his that grates on me like no other. I was prepared to yell out “what are you doing here?!” but instead found myself frozen where I sat when he suddenly said – more than asked really- “I’m sorry.” At first, there were no words, not even thoughts. All I could do was stare for a few moments because this is something he’d never done before– and thank goodness it’s over now!
I’ve been hurt too many times to count by people who didn’t keep their word: once again, the promise of tomorrow does nothing but leave me haunted with disappointment when I wake up in the morning. But his apology started as just that: an uncharacteristic admission from him that made me believe there might be hope after all. He said “sorry” without any excuses or conditions attached to it – and apologized sincerely.. so what should I say?
Every single time someone asks my opinion on spirituality (or anything), they are quick to proceed with how they think I will answer. But it’s not my job to please them or live their life– they should be doing that for themselves!
‘thoughts’ is all he could offer in response and the silence has been deafening ever since.. so what can I say?

It sounds like you’re frustrated with people who don’t keep promises, including him at first – but then he did apologize sincerely so now you can forgive his past transgressions like when someone expects your opinion on spirituality without letting you speak up about any of your own thoughts and feelings on religion (or anything). And if there are still times where others make you feel like you’re not worth listening to, then it’s time to take a break from those people and make some new friends. We can’t control what others do– but we CAN control how they affect us. And if someone doesn’t respect me anymore? I don’t care because at least now I know who my real friends are (and maybe that means only one person in my life)! 🙂 I’m just going to focus on myself anyway– after all, nobody else will ever really get me as well as I understand myself :).
