This book is a collection of quotes from the great philosopher Epicurus, an ancient Greek philosopher. They are very thought-provoking and well worth the read.
I’m very impressed with the way this book was put together. I have to admit that I always get a bit intimidated by books that look like they should be in the library, but this one really does look rather nice.
I’ve seen so many quotes that I’ve been so excited to share. I’ll definitely be making a point of getting this book in my library and reading it out loud.
Its also worth mentioning that Epicurus was one of the first philosophers to write about the nature of the soul and how it can be described in terms of “natures” or “natures” or simply “things”. He was also one of the first philosophers to describe the idea of the soul as a “wandering thing” within the body, a wandering thing that is not fixed or determined and has free will.
The idea of free will, as we discussed in chapter 1, is what we are talking about in this chapter. When we talk about the soul, we are talking about an energy that keeps us from being fixed or determined. We can’t be fixed or determined in the sense that our bodies are fixed or determined; we can’t be fixed or determined in the sense that we can’t be fixed or determined or can’t be changed.
The idea is that when we say “soul” we really mean a wandering, a-moving, a-sinking, a-flying thing that seems to be on a quest for something. The only way to be fixed or fixed is to be fixed or determined, and the only way to be determined is to be fixed or fixed or determined. All our actions are essentially decisions within a quest.
The thing is, we are fixed or determined or fixed or determined on so many things that it’s hard to say what we are most fixed about. For example, I’m usually pretty determined to get my head straightened out. But this week, it’s been a few things I’ve been determined to do.
That’s because Im more determined that I’ll be able to find my house key, my wallet, my phone, or my car keys, than I am that I’ll be able to get my head straightened out, my head clean, my hair put back, or get on with my life. The problem with this is when we give ourselves too much power.
Its hard to say if you are fixed about what you are most fixed about. Some things are fixed. Your house is fixed. Your money is fixed. Your car is fixed. Your head and your hair are fixed. Your wallet is fixed. Your phone is fixed. Your car keys are fixed. Your house keys are fixed. Your house is fixed. Your wallet is fixed. Your house is fixed. Your head is fixed. Your hair is fixed. Your wallet is fixed.
That’s not to say that we don’t have power! We don’t give ourselves too much power. But we do have power because we have the power to fix things, so we can fix our lives too, which means we can fix our houses, our cars, our money, our time, our hair, our hair, and our lives. It’s not a black and white choice, like you or I decide that we are fixed about our hair or our money or our car.
