This month we have a special guest blogger with us- Elizabeth Thatcher is an RCMP officer who also happens to be one of our favorite characters from When Calls The Heart (seriously – she’s all kinds of awesome). She has some great advice for anyone looking at balancing family life with their career goals, especially as someone working 24 hours every day! Good times are always better when spent with loved ones, but sometimes we find ourselves needing to be away from them. There are so many great moments in this show that it’s hard to summarize them all but we’ll try! – In Season One, Maggie and Alice teach at an RCMP outpost in fictional Coal Valley during World War I so their husbands who are fighting overseas have more time for training before being sent into battle. They’re also joined by a young woman named Ruby whose father was killed when she was just seven years old. Now as the war rages on they find themselves teaching patriotic songs and rote memorization of national symbols like flags or birds, which the girls believe will help keep hope alive while her classmates offer up prayers against Germany and France.
In Season Two we learn how love can break down barriers and reach across the Pacific Ocean. When Maggie and Alice’s husbands return from Europe, they bring with them an orphaned young boy named Johnny (played by George Wells) who is welcomed into their North Dakota home. This season we will see how he adjusts to life in Coal Valley as his new family members deal with change and conflict – some of which was brought on because of him!
In Season Three when a string of robberies plague Coal Valley, two visiting detectives are sent to investigate — but it turns out that at least one culprit may come from within our own community. And when Ruby falls for a soldier stationed nearby she stands up against her father’s rules about staying safe while fighting another war overseas
