The first thing you need to know is that there never was any such thing as stimulus checks – not unless your name happens to be John Q Public and you work for the government. For everyone else who actually paid taxes in America over those years? You’re outta luck! If anything got stimulated back then from what the government did, it was just greed.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 – or ARRA for short – is what most people are thinking about when they talk about stimulus checks. It cost a whopping $787 billion dollars to spend on tax cuts, public works programs, social services and infrastructure projects in an effort to jump start recovery from the financial crisis. But that’s not all: there were also plans to make trade adjustment assistance available to workers who lost their jobs because of import competition while simultaneously assisting them with retraining so as to reduce these future job losses.. but much like John Q Public at home? You’re outta luck! That would have required you paying taxes during those years which you didn’t do – and that would have been a great deal of money.

Blah blah blah, but we know what you really want to see: how much am I going to get? Good question! There’s no definite answer because the stimulus checks are calculated on your income tax return. So go ahead and fill out this year’s form (be honest!) and when it comes back, Uncle Sam will tell you how lucky – or not lucky you were in 2009-2010.. assuming he gets his job done before January 20th , 2020 at noon EST .

This isn’t always easy because there is so much political debate about everything these days. But if one thing can be agreed upon universally it’s that $787 billion dollars was spent from 2008 to 2009. That money was spent and there is no way of knowing how much it helped, but the United States government still owes that $787 billion dollars on January 20th 2020 at noon EST .

This section will be about where all this stimulus money went: what Obama did with his ‘shovel ready’ plan which he promised would work, back in 2008 when things looked so bad for our economy. It’s interesting because the original idea behind shovel ready jobs was not just to create employment opportunities but also a symbol or signifier that America is open for business again (or as somebody once said “back up off my lawn!”) So now we’ll look at some examples of these jobs created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which was Obama’s response to the 2008 recession.

The government has spent $787 billion on stimulus programs over eight years, with just over $200 billion of that going to state and local governments.

Today President Obama announced a new plan he hopes will help stimulate the economy by giving tax rebates to 95% of workers ($400 for individual filers). He also asked Congress for another stimulus package worth about $300 billion.

The unemployment rate has been at or above ten percent since 2009 so it’s difficult not only for construction companies but all businesses trying to maintain staff levels in this environment. And as we know from history, when there are high rates of unemployment people tend to spend less money on items like clothes, cars and home furnishings which have an impact across the country–so it’s important that our government continues working towards solving these problems.

We are making progress. The stimulus package put in place last year has helped create about 400,00 jobs and the economy is starting to turn around–but it’s important that we continue doing what we can to get people back at work because this will have a positive impact for everyone.

The tax rebates may not seem like much but they do provide an additional stimulus for individuals which encourages them to spend more freely on items such as bed sheets or outdoor furniture, and with all of these little things adding up it helps contribute towards our overall economic growth. We need your help too though–please consider volunteering when you’re able so that together we can make sure everyone feels included in our recovery efforts!

If I’m unemployed, can I still volunteer?

Yes! Even if you’re unemployed, there are many ways to help out those who may not have the means–you could donate food or provide transportation assistance for someone’s doctor appointment. Volunteering doesn’t require money and it will give you a sense of purpose in what might otherwise be an unaffordable (or unfindable) time.

It was only five years ago that we were on the cusp of another recession with unemployment rates near double digits. But now, our economy is slowly but surely recovering from its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression thanks to President Obama’s stimulus plan which has created about 400,00 jobs over the last year alone and helped put people back at work by providing them with affordable housing, food assistance and access to medical care.
