There were many volunteers that came out to help commemorate this occasion including local children who learn about gardening from a young age because it’s an important part of life here in Taos County!
In my opinion, National Hoe Day is a great opportunity for people all over the world to get outside and work with nature. It’s kind of like an Earth Day that happens once every year! After much research on the history behind this observance, I found out why National Hoe Day was created. John Jameson invented this device in 1797 which allowed for cultivation of plants (many rely on humans). Since then, November has been designated as a time for celebrating hoes because many people use them during planting season. As such, October 15th is National Hoe Day.
I also found out that the observance was originally celebrated on October 15th in Philadelphia and Boston, but it changed over time to November when John Jameson created his invention. I am really looking forward to celebrating this day next year- hopefully we will have a good harvest!
