why should i apologize for the monster i ve become

We are all guilty of being monsters, and we should apologize. In the article “Am I a Monster?” by Jessica J. Thompson, she discusses what it means to be a monster and how everyone should apologize for the person they’ve become:

“The question is not whether you’re a monster or not; it’s just when did you stop pretending otherwise.”

“We’re all guilty of being monsters, so why should I apologize for the person I’ve become?”

Thompson goes on to discuss how we have a responsibility to be better people and turn away from our monstrous tendencies.

I want you to know that it’s not too late, no matter what kind of monster you are. You can still change your ways before someone else has to take care of them for you.

To summarize Thompson’s article: she argues that everyone is a monster in some way and therefore should apologize. She discusses how we need to take responsibility ourselves in order to make things right again rather than expecting others (e.g., government) or institutions (e.g., school) do this work for us because by the time they do, it’s too late.

I’m a Monster: Why Should You Apologize for the Person You’ve Become?

In this article, I’ll discuss how we’re all guilty of being monsters and why you should apologize for the person you have become. I will also go over what we need to take responsibility ourselves (rather than waiting on someone else or an institution) so that things can get back to normal again before its too late. Finally, I want to make sure that everyone knows: no matter what kind of monster you are–whether your feeling monstrous because of your past choices in life or from mistakes made by others–you can always change your ways and turn away from those tendencies if given the chance.

This is a blog post about how we’re all guilty of being monsters and why you should apologize for the person you have become. The first sentence sets up that this is going to be a blog post about how we’re all guilty of being monsters, but not all monsters need to stay that way. The second sentences states why everyone should apologize for who they’ve become: “even though it’s been years since my last offense.” This relates back to the idea that even people with clean records do things wrong sometimes, so we never know when someone will have committed their one major crime. Once again, as long as there is hope for redemption (or change), there’s no need to be apologetic for who you’ve become.

A final note: this topic is related to the idea of forgiveness and redemption, which are both central themes in my novel The Redemption Factory. If that interests you, it would help me a lot if you could share about how much those topics interest or inspire you–or even just like them! I hope these blog posts have been interesting so far – please leave feedback on anything about what has worked well as soon as possible (goodbye!). xoxo

In order to show readers that they’re not alone when being a monster, we should all apologize for who we’ve become—even though it’s been years since our last offense. We can always start over.

The next sentence should be a follow-up to the first idea, without giving any of that idea’s content away in the description.

We can always start over if we are willing to change and apologize for what we’ve done wrong–no matter when or how it happened. But there is no need to feel remorseful about who you have become. This topic also ties into forgiveness and redemption which are central themes in my novel The Redemption Factory where I explore these ideas extensively (in case this interests you). Please share your thoughts on anything related to those topics! Thank you so much for reading, please provide feedback soon as possible! xoxo

Thank You For Your Feedback: Thanks so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it.

The Redemption Factory is a novel about the redemption of one person who’s spent much of his life being cursed by guilt, shame and regret. As he seeks redemption in each chapter from those that have broken him down over the years, it becomes clear that there are many ways to atone for past wrongs–we can always start over if willing to change and apologize for what we’ve done wrong–no matter when or how it happened. But there is no need to feel remorseful about who you have become. This topic also ties into forgiveness which are central themes throughout this work as well as other works I do outside of The Redemption Factory (in case this interests you). Please share your thoughts on anything related to these topics!

The monster in me is there all the time, always has been. It doesn’t want to be ignored or forgotten about. There’s a part of it that wants someone else to see what I’ve done and know how dark my thoughts are sometimes. And then maybe they’ll understand why I’m like this.” – Olly Richards, from “Am I a Monster?” by Tim McBride

“The monster in me is there all the time, always has been. It doesn’t want to be ignored or forgotten about.” – Olly Richards from “Am I a Monster?” by Tim McBride. This sentiment rings true for many people who suffer with mental illness and have felt like monsters ever since they can remember–even before their first episode of psychosis occurred and without any warning signs that might lead one to think they were headed down a dark path toward worsening symptoms. For some, this feeling even persists after recovery because it’s such an intrinsic part of their identity now; others are still trying to figure out whether or not something needs to change following treatment so that they don’t
