Females are more likely than males to experience abuse from an intimate partner; therefore the female offender has had at least a decade worth of emotional trauma which often leads them into being victims themselves. Sometimes females feel like if they take action against these men then maybe others will finally realize how much pain women go through on a daily basis with respect to these issues thus it may be their only way to get people’s attention.

Throughout Season One of “Why Women Kill,” viewers learn about the dynamic between abusers and victims. Most horrifically, there’s an episode dedicated to discussing why moms kill: mothers who have been abused by their husbands or boyfriends for years eventually feel like they’re no longer able to defend themselves against him–and finally resort to killing him when he becomes even more aggressive. In addition, we learn about the trials these women face in the aftermath of their crime, from being treated as criminals instead of survivors to possible sentences that may not be light.
The episode starts by discussing how–although rare–some moms might kill an abuser when they feel like they’re no longer able to defend themselves against him and his threats towards herself. It then continues on with a discussion about the dynamics between abusers and victims: what it means for someone’s self-esteem after years of abuse, why many women stay despite physical violence or emotional manipulation, and even some tips for leaving without becoming another statistic. Finally, there’s a Q&A session where viewers can ask questions addressed at this topic before moving onto other topics such as how society views female murderers versus male murderers.
