wish i knew you when i was young

I wish I knew what it was like to grow up as a teenager in the 21st century. I wished that my parents could have warned me about the dangers of social media and smartphones, so that I could spend more time enjoying life with friends and family instead of looking at them through a screen. I also wish I could have enjoyed the time and freedom to explore my interests without feeling like they had to be immediately turned into a career. I would tell myself that it’s okay if you’re not perfect, because none of us are; and don’t waste too much energy worrying about what other people think of you–you’re worth more than that!

I know how hard it is for your kids today with all these distractions on social media. It can feel impossible to keep up with their online world while balancing life in general. The best thing we parents can do is make sure our children understand that there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to exploring who they want to be creatively or professionally as they grow up.

The best thing we parents can do is make sure our children understand that there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to exploring who they want to be creatively or professionally as they grow up.

The only way we can teach them this lesson is by living and reflecting the same values and embracing their individuality– so they will know it’s okay to be different.

The best advice I ever got from my mom was “It doesn’t matter what people think of you, as long as you are happy with yourself.” It might sound cliché but she is right!

In the end we always have ourselves, our loved ones, and a few special friends who really know us for real. We can only hope that our kids will live by this same philosophy too.

I also wish someone had told me not to take life too seriously because in the end all we’re doing is passing through.. There were plenty of times when looking back at some of the things I worried about seemed so trivial or silly; yet those moments were real to me at the time.

I wish someone had told me that my friends weren’t always going to be there for me when I needed them most and, more importantly, not everyone is a good friend. True friendships are hard work but they’re worth it!

My mom should have also told me that money doesn’t buy happiness. It’s important but true wealth comes from love, family, and health– all these things add up to lifelong fulfillment. A life without self-respect or peace of mind has no value in the grand scheme of things; yet many people don’t even know this because they never learned how valuable their own lives were until it was too late.”

It might sound cliché but she should have told me that I can be anything, do anything.

I wish someone had told me when to take a break and walk away from toxic relationships- those times were important learning experiences for who I would become later on in life.

My parents should’ve also taught me about the importance of building resilience and how it has made all the difference in my adult life because now bad days are often followed by good ones.”

“Above all else,” they should’ve reminded me “that happiness is not being perfect or even successful–it’s simply doing what you love, with people you enjoy.” – Jane Austen
