8 Viking Names Male Clichés (And What to Do/say Instead)

Sigurd. Ragnar. Erik the Red. Names that conjure images of fearless, fierce warriors with a thirst for battle and conquest. And while these names are great in their own right, we can’t help but notice how similar they all sound to each other – as well as being fairly clichéd when it comes to naming your son after a Viking name…

But fear not! We have gathered 8 male Viking names that are both strong yet unique, and sure to make you think twice before choosing one of those traditional ones above again!

1) Freyja: Naming your son after the Norse goddess who is associated with love, beauty and magic? Why would you want to do anything else?

Freyja was the daughter of Njord and sister to Freyr, god of fertility. She is often depicted as a beautiful woman riding in a chariot pulled by two golden cats while wearing an elaborate headdress made from boar tusks. You can even take it one step further: In Scandinavian folklore stories about Freyja describe her quest for finding out who will be the next lover she kisses on earth before dying – or taking other lovers after death…

And then there’s all those stereotypes that have been etched in our brains since day one: aggressive warriors; blue-faced barbarians; horned helmets. What can you do? You just need to know how to talk back!

What should we call them instead?

These guys might be tough on the outside but inside they’re softies. They love family picnics and they’re always ready to go on an adventure. And if you make them laugh, that’s their undoing! Here are some of our favorite nicknames for Viking men:

– Braveheart

– Gentle Giant

– Big Red

– Bear Hugger

– The Mighty Thor (remember he was a Viking too) o someone who is gruff and tough but has a heart of gold? He won’t admit it – so be patient with him 🙂 But don’t worry; just get to know him better and soon enough, his armor will come off. Trust me 😉 You’ll find out what I mean when we talk about these names next time..

We’ll start by changing the meaning from “stub
