Akron’s very own Craigslist alternative is now live. AkronCraigslist.com has been created to fill the void left by craigs list, who can no longer operate in Ohio due to a new law passed by the state legislature. The creator of this website is an Akron resident and wants to keep his city running smoothly with its own classifieds site for locals and visitors alike!

The website is very easy to use and allows people to post new listings, browse existing ones, or even search for a specific item. The site already has many popular items in its database including cars, jobs, homes for sale and rent, pets available for adoption (from the local Animal Shelter!), plus much more. This exciting project will continue adding additional categories as needed.

Step 15: Previewing Your Post or Page with WordPress Live Edit

Once you have finished writing your post as long form content without bullet points, click Publish in order to save your changes live, then preview what the post will look like by clicking View Live Edit (located at the top right corner of each page). In this case we would edit our Blog Posts > Homepage content and scroll down until we find “Akron’s very own Craigslist alternative.” Click this link and then click on “View Live Edit”.

This will take you to a preview page with the text of your post formatted in WordPress. Notice that there are no bullet points, numbers or links, just like we want for long-form content. You may need to scroll down the page if it is not at the top of your browser window. We can see here that all formatting has been removed so our blog post looks nice and clean! If you’re satisfied with what you see after reviewing these changes live, head back to step 14 where we were writing our blog post.

Since 2013 Akron has been home to a Craig’s List alternative called Klist (which was originally called Meet Market). Taking its name from Akron City Council member Kirk Mason’s comment about “the kink list” on an online message board, the service was created by a University of Akron graduate student and is now operated as an independent company.

The founders have promised that it will never become another Craig’s List. Unlike other classified sites in which people can post anything without censorship or review, this site only lets users post items they own or are authorized to sell: cars, homes for rent/sale, jobs open positions at businesses looking to hire, items for sale and other offers of goods or services.

Klist has grown rapidly since it was founded three years ago, now maintaining more than 450 active users with 50-100 new posts every day. Meet Market’s founder hopes this will be an online community where people can come together without fear of being judged by others. “We’re not looking at what you have for sale,” said Klist cofounder Peter Lao when asked about how he manages some of these controversial postings like drugs and weapons sales.” It’s about meeting someone else’s needs.” The service also allows users to post their personal ads, with strict guidelines.

For example, the person posting a personal ad must identify themselves as male or female (users cannot remain anonymous).
