Esam tier list

The Melee scene has had a lot of activity lately. Between the new expansion and competing in local tournaments, there is always something to do as a player. One thing that might not be on your radar, though, is the tier list. A tier list can take some time to establish and keep up with changes in character usage over time, so we are going to try our hand at it! This post will feature the top N ranked players on legend+, ordered from highest rank to lowest rank.

This post will list the top N ranked players on legend+, ordered from highest rank to lowest rank. The rankings are based off of data collected through SSBM Rank, Melee Stats, and Smashboards. This article is not meant as a definitive way to measure player skill but simply one perspective into ranking power levels in relation to others.

-Rankings are made up of two sets: Top 20 players (N) who have played at least 50 games since January 2018 -April 2019 and within that subset, Top 16 players with greater than 100 Lifetime wins ~~All lists were created using May 23rd 2019 as the cutoff date for tournament activity~~(Some exceptions apply)

*Note: Tournament activity is only considered if it was documented on a professional site, such as Smash.gg or Challonge-ranked tournaments listed on the SSBM Rank website

Rankings are made up of players ranked by their rank in relation to other legend+ tier players who have participated and won at least 50 games in tournament play since January 2018 -April 2019. Players that qualify for this list will be categorized into one of five sections: Top 20 (N) with greater than 100 Lifetime wins; Top 16 (N) with greater than 100 Lifetime wins; ~~Top 12(N) with more than 75 lifetime wins but less than 100 ; ~~Top 18(N); all other players who have participated in at least 50 games since January 2018 ~~April 2019

N is greater than 20, N can be a number between 12 and 18.

*Here are two examples of how this code is used with a list:

-N can be a number between 12 and 18. -N is greater than 20, N can be a number between 12 and 18.

*Top 24(n), all other players who have participated in at least one tournament and have ascended to the rank of legend or above.

*Top 12 players(n) in this list are those who participated in at least 25 tournaments, won more than 20 games, and/or placed first place in ten or more series.

-N can be a number between 11 and 18. *Players may not exceed the maximum value listed for their respective ranking category on this table: (11th player).

This is a list of the top N ranked players on Legend+, ordered by rank order and player. Data was compiled from rankings between October 13 – December 18, 2018 and includes only those who have played more than 25 matches in that time period.

*Rankings are based off an average ranking across all ranks from top to bottom (ex: Rank 50 = 1500th)

-Players with less than 23 total games were excluded for calculation purposes due to uncertainty over their true skill level

The Smash Quiz 123 Captain Faceroll is ranked as the fifth best player in this listing of top N players, based off an average rank across all ranks from top to bottom. His actual ranking falls somewhere between Rank 47 – 49 but the exact place cannot be determined without more data points (i.e., matches that he has played). He will need to play more matches to determine his true ranking.

-Players are ranked according to rank in game mode – which is determined by two factors: personal preference of what character they use (their main) and how well they perform with that character via measurable statistics like combos per minute or percentage popularity; see below table for details about each Rank category Rankings are based off an average rank across all modes

-The list is ordered by rank in game mode, but not all rankings are a level – for example, there may be players who are ranked 23rd on the list that are actually Level 50 in game. This can happen when they have achieved high ranks with multiple characters or if their main character has low personal preference and performs poorly statistically Rankings such as “Level” might imply which player(s) one should try to play against in order to get better at the game (as well as how good those opponents would be), while other rankings like “Rank” might indicate what modes of gameplay someone prefers
