some say that 40 yards is the minimum distance to pattern a shotgun. Others point out you can’t really be sure of your shot until it’s past 50 yards; but if you’re shooting at game like deer or ducks, which are typically between 30 and 300 feet away, then that should get close enough.

So what percentage of pellets in a circle does it take for us to consider them “patterned”?
