which event makes meiosis a reductional division and why?

Mitosis is the process by which a cell divides to produce two identical daughter cells. This is done by duplicating the chromosomes and then splitting them equally between each new daughter cell. The mitotic mechanism, in most organisms, starts off with prophase where chromosomes become visible under a microscope. After that they move on to metaphase when it aligns itself along the middle of the nuclear envelope. Then comes anaphase where sister chromatids are pulled apart and finally telophase occurs which is when cytokinesis takes place so that two daughter cells can be formed from one mother cell!

– The mitotic mechanism in most organisms is a reductional division. This means that each daughter cell formed contains one half of the genetic material found in the original mother cell (the diploid number).

– One event which makes meiosis a reductional division is crossing over, where two homologous chromosomes exchange regions containing genes before separating. Before they separate, recombination has occurred and both chromatids contain different combinations of genes than those from their parent cells! So this occurrence causes unequal distribution during anaphase because now you have sister chromatid pairs with different gene content on either side.

– Mitosis produces new cells without any change to its DNA makeup or chromosome configuration while Meiosis leads to changes in the genetic makeup and chromosome configuration.

– Meiosis is a form of division that occurs only in sexual reproduction involving two rounds of cell divisions, meiosis I and meiosis II to produce four haploid cells (non-sex chromosomes) from one diploid parent cell with matching sets of sex chromosomes.

Mitosis: event makes meiosis reductional because crossing over results in unequal distribution during anaphase where sister chromatids contain different gene content on either side

Meiosis: produces new cells without any change to its DNA makeup or chromosome configuration while Mitosis leads to changes in the genetic makeup and chromosome configuration; this process involves two rounds of cell divisions called mitosis I and mitosis II resulting in four non-sex chromosomes

Meiosis is a form of gamete production that occurs only when sexual reproduction takes place – it does not occur with single-celled organisms such as bacteria, protists, and fungi. The separation of matching sets of sex chromosomes into haploid (non-sex) daughter cells is called meiosis I, whereas the second division of haploid cells is called meiosis II.

What is the Mechanism of Mitosis? which event makes meiosis a reductional division and why?

– Mitosis is a process of cell division in which two identical daughter cells are created. It happens when the nucleus divides into two, with each receiving half of its chromosomes (genetic material). The mitotic phase consists of five distinct phases: prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase.  [v] Ibid., “mitosis”, “[vi].” (Hicks et al.).  ”Mitosis”. Janepedia Encyclopedia for Students. Web. 06 Jun 2018.

-“The mechanism of meiosis is quite different from that seen during mitosis.”  Ibid., “meiosis”, “[ii].”(Thompson).    ”Differentiation of the chromosomes into two daughter cells is not a feature that occurs during meiosis.”  Ibid., “meiosis”, “[ii].”(Thompson).

-The mechanism of mitosis can be seen as in contrast to the process of meiosis. Mitosis happens when one cell divides into two, which leads to both having copies of all its genetic material; however, with both halves being identical and each containing exactly half. Meiosis on the other hand involves four divisions where each division only contains one copy from either parent’s set (rather than an exact copy) – making for variation among offspring. The important thing about this specific difference is that it makes reproduction more efficient since there are fewer duplicated copies of the genetic material.

“Mitosis is a process in which one cell splits into two new cells with identical DNA.”  Ibid.

-The mechanism by which this division takes place, then, has to be quite specific; it cannot just split at any point along its genome and have both halves retain their integrity as daughter cells ready for reproduction. In fact,” mitotic spindle microtubules are important because they partition sister chromatids into different daughter nuclei during anaphase.”  Ibid., “meiosis II diagram”, [ii]. The event that makes meiosis a reductional division rather than an iterative or compounding progression is that for all of the duplicated copies of DNA which exist in each cell, one copy is eliminated at this point.

“Mitotic spindle microtubules are important because they partition sister chromatids into different daughter nuclei during anaphase.”  Ibid., “meiosis II diagram”, [ii].
